Cleveland Clinic Betrayed Patients
Cleveland Clinic is a textbook example of how taxpayer-support for healthcare programs is misused and abused
While reaping hundreds of millions in benefits from federal programs, Cleveland Clinic spent critical resources on their own version of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
Cleveland Clinic boasts a gorgeous in-house art museum with nearly 7,000 pieces of art; facilities for the global elite in Abu Dhabi, London, and Toronto; and a sports center with the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have eye-popping executive salaries and even ran a Super Bowl ad. They’re the height of luxury, but due to their tax-exempt status, all that glitz and glamour is subsidized by taxpayers.
But it gets worse…
A Senate Report found that Cleveland Clinic receives hundreds of millions of dollars a year in benefits from the federal 340B program without passing these savings directly to patients. Cleveland Clinic also faces allegations of deceptive billing, accusations of overcharging patients, reports of underpaying nurses, and reports of lawsuits where Cleveland Clinic sues its own patients. It was even criticized for secret settlements seeking to cover up sexual assault and a top doctor was accused of sexually assaulting patients during exams. It’s a wealthy urban hospital that uses legal loopholes to take money meant for rural hospitals….
